Hitting a Growth Spurt: Moving VUMC Toward Organizational Maturity Through Digitization & Standardization
In the last five years, VUMC has grown tremendously – both figuratively and literally – as an organization. For example, since 2016, it has legally separated from Vanderbilt University, implemented a new electronic health record, acquired or opened several new hospitals and clinics, and rapidly expanded its regional footprint. This brisk pace has not been without its challenges – those “growing pains” that are normal for organizations in this particular life stage. One such painful point for VUMC was its reliance on paper-based forms that were presented to patients who were checking in for an appointment with their provider. These forms were, in many cases, unique to the scores of different specialties under the VUMC umbrella.
Join several IT experts from VUMC to learn more about how this team helped drive organizational maturation by:
- Revolutionizing and modernizing an outdated, paper-based process
- Standardizing and digitizing approximately 100 unique forms
- Achieving buy-in from numerous stakeholders, all of whom felt their current customized process was critical
- Meeting customer expectations for a seamless, digital experience
- Reducing process inefficiencies and error rates
