Women in Technology of Tennessee has partnered with the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to establish an endowment designed to further the educational opportunities for women in the technology industry.
Since 1999, Women in Technology of Tennessee has provided scholarships to local female students pursuing technology-related degrees and programs, awarding over $225,000 in scholarships in their twenty-one year history. The establishment of an endowment marks the first major investment by the non-profit, which is operated by a volunteer board of directors made of mostly female IT professionals in the Nashville area.
The endowment will fund scholarships annually to support local women pursuing four-year degree programs in technology, bringing more gender diversity to the IT industry in Middle Tennessee.
“Establishing this endowment is a significant milestone for WiTT and ensures female students will receive support and encouragement to pursue a technology education for generations,” says WiTT President Meg Chamblee. “We are so grateful to our members and sponsors for making this possible.”
Working with the Community Foundation brings hope that scholarships can be awarded for years to come, reflecting WiTT’s intentions and goals as an organization.
“Getting an education is one of the most important milestones in life, but for many, it comes with a great burden,” says Ellen Lehman, president of The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. “We feel honored to help students receive a quality education, made possible by donors who wish to make a difference. It is a privilege to connect generosity with need in this way."
